Every so often, someone new emerges out of the sky and brings with them a new flavor that has never been seen before. That statement holds true for young 21-year-old Daniel Alexander as he takes his position center stage in a new revolution to the music world.
Born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Daniel’s passion for being an entertainer started at a young age. As a kid, he would perform live skits of popular culture icons along with his own verision of “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” by Madonna from the 1996 film, Evita. These very first steps are the ones that took Alexander down the path to where he is today.
While he may have a dashing face to look at, it only hides the true pain that his experiences left behind. In the beginning, Daniel says that he struggled with producers trying to make him something he didn’t want to be. As an openly gay artist, he says he tries to not let his orientation define him and that he does not want to be like anyone else before him. “I don’t like to do the stereotypical things. I like to keep myself very universal,” Alexander says. With that, the half Cuban half El Salvadorian singer considers himself socially trendsetting, referring that he makes his own style as he goes.
Daniel has already put out his first song titled “Beautiful”, from his upcoming EP Evocative. It is a high energy pop song that delivers a sound to be played in clubs everywhere. In the lyrics, Alexander talks about finding beauty in struggle. “At the end of the day, it’s what you go through in life that gives you fuel to stay strong for what’s ahead. That’s what this song describes,” he explains. “I will always write about exactly what I’m feeling or have been through.”
I got the chance recently to sit down with the brilliant star and get just a little bit of a closer insight as to what makes Daniel Alexander more than who is already out there.
TGB: Where does it all begin for you?
DA: I started singing when I was eight years old. What’s funny, I write about everything and I wrote a poem about clouds and I won the literary fair at school. My parents then knew I had writing abilities and naturally the rest followed. I wrote little songs and went to singing lessons.TGB: What made you want to pursue a career in music?
DA: I have such a passion for pop music, I cannot explain it to you. I literally dream about it. This is all I do. I love shows! Ever since I was a little kid, I wanted to be in music videos. I look at them differently, seeing what’s in them and what the people are doing so that was my drive.TGB: How would you describe your music to people hearing it for the first time?
DA: I would say Glitter Gay Pop Fabulousness. I’m like the male Taylor Swift, writing music about the perpetual heartache I’ve gone through. If I didn’t have those experiences, I wouldn’t be able to be a creator.TGB: Being that you are an openly gay music artist, how would your music impact someone newly coming out into their own?
DA: I feel that there is this new revolution in pop music going on, ever since Lady Gaga came out where artists are speaking out telling you to be yourself. Before, it was never really like that. When I wrote Beautiful, I wrote it for all these young kids that feel like they are out of place or don’t belong. We are beautiful no matter what we are.TGB: How do you deal with obstacles that challenge you, both in your life and in your music?
DA: Humor, one hundred percent. As long as I can make a joke about it, I can get over whatever it is that troubles me.TGB: What are your immediate careers goals? What are you wanting to achieve?
DA: Give people the opportunity to lose themselves in my music, hear my emotion and relate. Music is all about evoking an emotion. I just want them to move to it, too.
So it seems that Daniel’s dreams have become the reality so far. Just announced on Monday, April 9th, the pop star has signed on with Tate Music Group to begin production and distribution of his music. This is a big step for Alexander as it will take him to the next level in his career. It is clear that this singer has a vision and he intends on doing all that he can to make it possible to reach the top. There is a lot to be expected from him now and I cannot wait to see how it all unfolds! Stay tuned.
